Beamish & The Great North Steam Fair

Join us for Beamish’s annual steam fair and see the extraordinary line-up of around 120 exhibits including steam locomotives, around 26 road steam vehicles and up to 80 motor vehicles.

2018’s event focuses on the First World War, with a real sense of the roads and railways of the Home Front during the Great War, including a fine selection of military vehicles. Across the museum there will be First World War re-enactors with fascinating displays and stories to tell, helping us to set the scene during this thought provoking event. Our weekend will also include a visit to the historic cities of Durham and York.

 

This tour includes our popular door-to-door collection service.

Sat:

Morning collection from home to join the coach for the journey north to the city of Durham with its ancient streets clustered beneath the magnificent cathedral. We spend a few hours here, before making the short journey to our hotel for two nights’ accommodation.

Sun:

Today we make a full day visit to the famous Great North Steam Fair at Beamish North of England Open Air Museum. Beamish is a living, working museum, set in 300 acres of beautiful Durham countryside. Costumed folk bring to life the Town, Pit Village, Home
Farm and Pockerley Old Hall. At this special event in addition to the 120 exhibits and vehicles, the Narrow Gauge and Colliery Railways will be in operation as well as passenger steam train rides from Rowley Station.

Mon:

After breakfast, we depart our hotel and journey to York. Rich in ancient history, romantic ambience and fun activities, York is renowned for its exquisite architecture, tangle of quaint cobbled streets, iconic York Minster and wealth of visitor attractions including
the Jorvik Viking Centre, the National Railway Museum and much more (admissions not included). We depart York mid-afternoon and return to Cambridgeshire by early evening where our door-to-door service will take you home.
