Llandrindod Wells grew in popularity during Victorian times when the benefits of its health giving waters became widely appreciated. On this holiday we discover the beautiful Mid-Wales countryside with a guided tour of the dams and visit the enchanting Abbey Cwm Hir – a hidden gem full of history and character.

Morning collection from your home to join the coach for our drive to Mid-Wales, arriving at our hotel mid to late afternoon in time for our evening meal.

Sat:

After breakfast we make our way to the Elan Valley Visitor Centre where we are joined by one of the Rangers for a morning escorted tour to see the beautiful lakes and impressive dams of the Elan Valley. We have time to purchase lunch in the visitor centre before travelling back in time to explore Abbey Cwm Hir. One of Wales’ most outstanding Victorian homes, this grade 2 listed property offers 52 rooms featuring ornate ceilings, marble fireplaces, exquisite furnishings and magnificent Victorian architecture, set overlooking the ruins of the 12th century Cistercian ‘Abbey of the Long Valley’ in beautiful countryside.

This morning we visit Hay on Wye, world famous for its annual literary festival. Hay is set on the edge of the Brecon Beacons with stunning scenery all around. This afternoon wereturn to relax in Llandrindod.

Mon:

After breakfast this morning we bid farewell to the Metropole Hotel and commence our journey homeward. After a stop for lunch (not included) we arrive back in the Peterborough area by late afternoon where our door to door service will be waiting to take you home.

Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod

Built in 1896, the 4-star Metropole Hotel and Spa was the largest hotel in Wales upon completion. Still owned by the same family today the hotel is run by the great, great grandson of the founder. All the bedrooms have en suite facilities with hairdryer, trouser press, flat screen TV, Wi-Fi and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has an award-winning restaurant, bar and lounge area as well as a heated 18 metre swimming pool and spa featuring a sauna, steam room and whirlpool bath. All floors are serviced by lifts at the front and rear of the hotel.
