Cornwall & Doc Martin Country

Cornwall & Doc Martin Country

Miles of magnificent coastline dotted with picturesque fishing villages as secluded bays dominate Cornwall.

These unbelievably pretty villages of painted cottages in sheltered bays hide dark secrets of days gone by, of smugglers and of wreckers luring ships to destruction on the rocks. We explore some of its wonders including the mythical site of Tintagel and the pretty harbour village of Port Isaac – setting for the TV drama series Doc Martin.

This tour includes our popular door-to-door collection service.

Sat:

Today we travel to Truro, Cornwall’s cathedral city with its cobbled streets and Georgian town houses. Truro is also Cornwall’s cultural and commercial centre with excellent pedestrianised shopping. From here we drive towards St. Austell and continue to Mevagissey. This is a traditional Cornish fishing village with houses around the harbour.

Sun:

Our excursion today takes us to Falmouth which has welcomed landlubbers, seafarers, sailors and smugglers since settlers first arrived and called this port home. Often referred to as the ‘Jewel of the Cornish Riviera’ due to its picturesque beaches and quaint streets, Falmouth was once a busy fishing port. Well worth a visit is the National Maritime Museum which gives an insight into the area’s maritime history (cost not included). The town’s shopping streets lie just off the waterfront and are connected by small alleyways offering tantalizing glimpses of the water and link the harbour with a charming mix of shops and art galleries. This afternoon we visit Trelissisk Garden. Sat on its own peninsula overlooking the Fal Estuary, the garden has evolved over 200 years. Picturesque planting is heightened by the folding contours and the informal wooded setting. You may wish to catch the ferry from Falmouth to Trelissisk (cost not included).

Mon:

After breakfast we meet our Blue Badge guide who will take us around many of the sites you will have seen on the TV drama ‘Doc Martin’, including Bodmin Moor and of course Port Isaac - Port Wenn in the show. The narrow lanes of whitewashed stone cottages lead down to the harbour - a truly peaceful and unspoilt spot. We also visit Tintagel, steeped in legend and mystery and said to be the birthplace of King Arthur.

Tue:

We head south today making a brief call at Land’s End before continuing via St. Just to the delightful harbour town of St. Ives. We have plenty of time here to enjoy the town and harbour before returning to our hotel by late afternoon.
