. . . with the Aston Fells to the south, the heights of south Tynedale to the east, the moors to the north and the Pennines to the west. Our tour takes in the beauty of Cumbria and the Lake District as we enjoy 3 railway journeys, stunning scenery and iconic sites.

Mon:

Morning collection from home to join the coach for the drive north to Cumbria and our hotel for 4 nights half board accommodation.

Tue:

Today we head for Longtown and drive along Liddesdale as we make our way to picturesque Kielder Water and Forest Park. We take a break at the visitor centre before continuing to Bellingham and Hexham, dominated by the Abbey overlooking the market square.This afternoon we return along the path of Hadrian’s Wall, hich stretched some 76 miles from the Tyne to the Solway, pausing at the Roman Army Museum (entrance not included) on our way back to our hotel.

Wed:

This morning we start our first train journey of the day in Carlisle. The line follows the Cumbrian coastline through Maryport and Whitehaven, the stunning sea views stay with us to Ravenglass. Here we join the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway – La’al Ratty miniature steam train from the coast to the foothills of England’s highest mountains. Seven miles of steam in the Lake District National Park.

Thu:

We travel into the Yorkshire Dales to Kirkby Lonsdale, where we find the weekly market in full swing. Then we travel on past the immense Ribblehead Viaduct, through charming Horton-in- Ribblesdale to Settle. This afternoon we take in the most spectacular train journey on a main line railway in the whole of England - the famous Settle to Carlisle line. Towering viaducts, bridges, long deep tunnels, lovingly kept station gardens all help to make this one of the best loved lines in the country. We travel along the whole line through majestic scenery to Carlisle where we rejoin the coach for the ride back to Gilsland.

Fri:

After breakfast, we depart our hotel and commence our homeward journey. We arrive back in Cambridgeshire by early evening where our door to door service will take you home.
