Weymouth’s reputation as a fashionable resort dates back to the 18th century when King George III and the Royal family came to enjoy the sea air and safe bathing. Since then visitors have come to Weymouth in search of a traditional seaside holiday and its popularity has never waned.

Fine Georgian terraces line the seafront to form an impressive backdrop to the long arc of golden sands. There is much more to attract visitors besides the beach including a bustling  harbour, cafes (don’t forget to try a Dorset Cream Tea!), shops and a thriving town centre and of course the beautiful surrounding Dorset countryside and coastline. Our holiday takes in some lovely coastal scenery, including the 180 million year old Jurassic Coast, the Isle of Portland, Lulworth Cove and Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens.

This tour includes our popular door-to-door collection service.

Sat:

Morning collection from home to join our coach for the leisurely drive to Dorchester, with its elegant 18th century houses, tree-lined walks and vibrant history, Dorchester is still very much the famous ‘Casterbridge’ of Thomas Hardy’s novels. After some free time we continue to our hotel in Weymouth by late afternoon.

Sun:

This morning we make the short journey to the Isle of Portland,a peninsula joined to the mainland by the narrow spit of Chesil Beach. We make a circular drive around this tiny island, which includes the famous Portland Bill lighthouse on its peninsula. We have a brief stop here where you can take a cliffside walk or relax with a drink in the restaurant next to the lighthouse. The amazing views of Weymouth and the Dorset coast are as famous as the local ‘Portland stone’, a much-prized limestone used in civic buildings throughout the U.K. Later we continue to Abbotsbury where we include admission to the famous subtropical gardens. Described by Alan Titchmarsh as ‘One of the finest gardens I have ever visited’, it includes a mixture of formal and informal gardens awash with colour, with charming walled garden walks and spectacular woodland valley views.
